For the past few weeks, between the dates of October 22nd and November 1st and still counting, many students have experienced the misfortune in having their belongings in the locker rooms stolen. In other words, a few thieves have been breaking into other student’s lockers and have been taking valuable items. For example, many students had their ipods, cell phones, make-up, and clothes stolen. Students’ clothes have also been ruined by vandals pouring drinks on them.
This is what I have heard from the many girls who have had their items stolen in the girl’s locker room. I was even a victim to this horrible and terribly annoying crime. Girls are not the only ones having this problem; numerous boys also have been victims.
This is aggravating for everyone, including the teachers who try hard to keep us safe and our belongings safe as well. Ms. Behrens, a P.E. teacher who has been trying her best to stop and find out who is doing this; explains how people should be aware of this and if anyone knows anything then to let her know. “It’s unfortunate that students will do this to other students” says Ms. Behrens. She also thinks that students should leave their personal and valuable items at home. Most students want to come to school to show off their new ipod or cell phone, but they are putting their possessions at risk. All the P.E. teachers have been keeping an eye out for anyone who might be guilty of this crime. Now they have been keeping the doors to the locker rooms locked at all times and they keep everyone out until there is a teacher in the locker room.
So far this procedure has been working because lately no one has had anything stolen or vandalized. Teachers have also been discussing the use of an adult supervisor in the locker rooms while the kids are in class to make sure that no one is sneaking in. Others suggested that they put cameras into the locker rooms. However, that is not going to happen! If that would happen while the girls and boys are changing, that would be a lack of personal privacy and who knows who will be observing the cameras. Also the cameras are too costly.
If anyone has information about these events, please inform administration or a PE teacher.
